Job Prospects

One can join to be a Sailor or an Artificer Apprentice (AA) or an Officer working as an Executive, Logistics and Education Officer, Engineering Officer, Electrical Officer, Medical or Dental officer. The Executive Branch manages the Navy’s Warships and Submarines as instruments of tactical warfare; The Engineering Branch is responsible for the maintenance and service of engineering equipment and the propulsion systems on board including electrical and electronic systems, weapon systems, missiles, radar and radio communication system; and The Education Branch ensures that the officers are updated in their technical knowledge and tactical skills.

Eligibility

Selection for all Permanent Commission entries, except 10+2 NDA and Naval Academy entry and NCC special entry (Graduate) is through written examination conducted by the UPSC, followed by an interview by the Service Selection Board (SSB). There is no written examination for the Short Service Commission entries. It is mandatory that all Degrees and educational qualifications are from educational institutes recognized by the competent authority in the field. All candidates desirous of joining the Indian Navy must be physically / mentally fit as per laid down standards. Proficiency is sports, swimming and extra –curricular activities is desirable.
