Think about your favourite E- commerce website Amazon, Myntra, Flipkart etc. These websites are able to customize their product recommendations to give you suggestions that would be most relevant to you. Similarly, if you log in to Netflix, you start by selecting movies and shows that are of interest to you and Netflix then uses this information to give recommendations for programmes that you're likely to watch. These websites collect vast amounts of data and use Machine Learning to extract information related to your preferences and make suggestions accordingly.

ML is more about pattern recognition, probability and statistics than about programming, and is integral to data science. With the growing importance of data science industries, the need for ML specialists has soared in the last few years. Large companies usually have Data Science groups that practice and use Machine Learning on a regular basis. Inventory Keeping, Logistics Planning, Warehousing and Transportation- functions that were traditionally in the domain called ‘Operation Research’ are now huge application areas for ML. Many start- ups are also building application in specific areas such as E-commerce, Online Travel, Banking and Education using Machine Learning.
