Legal Education in India

The Indian institutions imparting legal education are classified under into two major groups- Public and Private. While the Public institutions are often centrally and state government funded, the private are run through the private bodies, through regulated by the BCI and University Grant Commission.

As the education interest shifts among the aspirants towards legal education, it has lured several private bodies to establish and run institutions offering legal education. Though the gap between private and public law colleges is not much, but this privatization may lead to mushrooming of ‘under-rated’ law institutions running across India. With the rapid surge in number of institutions that now offer five-year integrated course, it is the private ones which are taking the lead. The NLUs figure among the good public schools here.
