Indian Administrative Service

 The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is the highest cadre of the Civil Services in India and is the successor to the erstwhile Indian (Imperial) Civil Service of British India. Under supervision of the Ministry of Home Affairs, IAS officers hold key positions in the Government, both at the centre and in the states. Regular recruitment, to the IAS is through a national competitive Civil Service examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Members of the Indian Administrative service hold various administrative posts like Districts Collector, Heads of Departments, and Heads of Public Enterprises at the centre and state level. It offers an attractive and challenging career. It is the service that is meant to place people straight at the top of any government organization and not the district alone.

Eligibility    

The candidate must hold a degree from any of the Universities incorporated by act of the Central or state Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification. The Civil services examination is conducted by UPSC (Union Public Grants Commission) every year. One should be 21 years of age as on 1st of August of the year in which one is appearing and not more than 30 years of age on that day. The IAS Exams are conducted in stages; IAS prelims, IAS Mains and finally the interview.
