Dentistry, a lucrative profession, is concerned with all problems afflicting the mouth, teeth, gums and other hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity. Dentistry includes cosmetology where corrective treatment is involved. Job Prospects

Excellent employment opportunities are available for dentists in hospitals, nursing homes, dental clinics and health departments. One can also seek a teaching job in any of the Dental colleges spread across the country. Apart from this, as a Dentist you can seek work in the research and advisory departments of pharmaceutical organizations. Opportunities are there in companies producing oral care products like toothpaste, mouth wash, gum care products. With experience, one can start private practice. Many dentists prefer private practice as it provides the best financial prospects along with a greater level of independence.

Eligibility

For a professional course in Dentistry, you have to pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with at least 50% marks to be eligible for admission in the BDS (Bachelor of Dental Science) program. Admission to this course is through a general, nationwide competitive examination. There are also private colleges that admit students on an all India basis. To chosen is approved by the Dental Council of India. A be eligible for practice, you must ensure that the course BDS degree alone is not considered enough to succeed in this profession; many opt for an MDS (Master of Dental Science) as well.
