Data Analytics

By Team Career Today

What is the world's most valuable resource? In the digital era that we live in, it is data...

Countless bytes of data are generated every day. It comes from everywhere- digital transactions, social media sites, internet searches, GPS signals… However, raw data on its own means little. It needs to be extracted and refined to generate patterns, predictions and insights which can then be used to make business decisions, such as launching a new service for consumers or taking over a company that is generating a lot of digital traffic. This refinement is called data analytics, and it is one of the most sought after skills in an ever growing data economy. Primarily, jobs in data are about creating algorithms that crunch the data and collecting and processing data to generate statistically analysis. The profile range from data scientists and system analyst to business/ domain experts and software developers. Analytics finds application in virtually every field and some of the most well known employment avenues including technology companies, banking, insurance and retail. Data analytics usually requires a background in engineering. There are very few specialised programmes in this field in India. They are usually offered at a certificate or postgraduate level and are often a combination of classroom and online training.
