Introduction

Dairy Technology deals with advanced studies of processing of milk and milk products. It deals with a specific commodity and its and its processing, whereas B. Tech dairy technology encompasses study related to collection of milk, then processing it into different products, specializing about chemistry and micro biology of dairy products, equipment used in manufacturing and marketing of products. 

What does a student learn?

One has to study all advanced courses related to dairy technology, food technology, bio-processing of milk and milk products, membrane technology, advances in health food, sensory evaluation of milk and related products and some of the R & D techniques.

Career opportunities

After pursuing this programme students may join dairy companies, dairy products manufacturing companies, food processing firms, dairy equipment manufacturing companies and dairy plants and academic institutions.

Job roles

In the production unit he/she becomes a Production Manager or Production In- charge where he/she has to supervise the production of dairy products being manufactured in a dairy plant. In Research and Development department one usually joins as Quality Control Officer/ Quality Assurance Officer or Research and Development Manager. As quality experts, they basically check the flavor, body texture, chemical and microbiological quality of the product. If one is into procurement side, he/she may join as Procurement Manager.
